B.Sc. (Ed) Biology
The B.Sc. (Ed.) Biology is structured to run for a minimum of four years and maximum of eight years for students starting at 100 level or minimum of three years and maximum of six years for students starting at 200 levels. Students will undergo a six week (6) practical teaching period at 300 and 400 levels
The Philosophy of B. Sc (Ed.) Biology Education programme is enshrined in the National Policy on Education and the Vision and Mission of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to produce quality Biology teachers through open and distance learning mode.
Specifically, the philosophy hinges on the production of high quality Biology teachers whose fundamental responsibility is to provide students with the knowledge and skills in Biology concepts and principles that will enable them make informed decisions regarding their environment and the society in general.
Admission Requirements
Candidates intending to enter the BSc. (Ed) Biology must satisfy the University admission requirements as follows
Five credit passes in SSCE in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English Language.
For Direct Entry
- i) NCE with at least merit passes in 2 relevant subjects or a double major in Biology with SSCE requirements.
- ii) Advanced level passes in 2 relevant subjects including Biology with SSCE requirements
- iii)IJMB passes in 2 relevant subjects including Biology with SSCE requirements
Graduation Requirements
The following conditions are required to graduate from the BSc. (ED) Biology:

Degree Rule
To be eligible for the award of the B. Sc (Ed.) in Biology a student must have passed a minimum of 120 and 90 credit units for the 4 year- and 3 year- degree programme respectively
