M.Ed. Guidance and Counselling

This course was approved the University Senate in 2013. The programme had its first set of admissions in 2014. The programme was suspended in 2016 because of accreditation issues. The programme was resource verified in 2017. As a result of successful resource verification, admission process was re-started and has been on since then. The Programme has graduated a good number of students. Currently the programme has 1237 total number of registered students

Objectives

The Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counselling has been developed to provide students with the cutting-edge knowledge and skills needed for the professional practice of the trade. On completion of the programme, students are expected to be able to:

  • Acquire knowledge and skills relevant to professional Guidance and Counselling;
  • practice the trade as professionals;
  • assist in solving various academic, social, psychological and vocational problems of Nigerians at various levels of education;
  • objectively and appropriately evaluate guidance and counselling services in order to solve various problems confronting man

Admission Requirements

To be admitted into the Master of Education Degree in  Guidance and Counselling programme, a candidate is expected to:

  • Produce evidence of successful completion of the first degree in any education programme from a recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division).
  • Produce an evidence of completion of Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or Postgraduate Diploma in Distance Education (PGDDE) from a recognized institution if his/her first degree is outside education.

Graduation Requirements

To be awarded the degree of M.Ed in Guidance and Counselling, the student must pass a minimum of 31 credit units including all compulsory courses.
