B.Sc. (Ed) Physics Education

The B.Sc. (Ed.) Physics programme is structured to run for a minimum of four years and maximum of eight years for students starting at 100 level or minimum of three years and maximum of six years for students starting at 200 levels. Students will undergo a six week (6) practical teaching period at 300 and 400 levels.

The Philosophy for B.Sc. (Ed.) Physics aims at a complete development of the individual student teachers irrespective of time and physical distance (space) to make them effective Physics teachers, and high caliber professionals in Science Education. The student shall be provided with functional, flexible learning and cost-effectiveness which will make the student to have quality and life-long knowledge in Physics education

To provide highly accessible, flexible and enhanced quality education leading to the award of a bachelor’s degree anchored by social justice, equity, equality and national cohesion through a comprehensive reach that transcends all barriers.

To provide opportunities for the development of scientific competences and creative minds that would equip learners with lifelong values and also produce professional Physics teachers and leaders through Open and Distance Learning.

Admission Requirements

Entry at 100 Level:

4-year programme – candidates must obtain 5 credit passes at G.C.E./WASC level, SSCE in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and two science subjects in not more than two sittings, or merit in T.C. II including English Language, Mathematics, and three science subjects in not more than two sittings.

Direct Entry

  1. C.E. with an overall merit pass or above in related field, provided the candidate also has at least five credits or its equivalent at O’Level in Mathematics, English, Physics and two science subjects in not more than two sittings.
  2. Diploma in any area of education provided the candidate also has at least five credits or its equivalent at O’Level in Mathematics, English, Physics and two science subjects in not more than two sittings.

iii.      Holders of N.C.E./Diploma will spend three academic years while all others will spend minimum of four and maximum of eight years respectively

Graduation Requirements

  • For a four-year education degree course, a minimum of 120 units should be required for graduation excluding GST credit units and must pass all core courses.

For a direct three-year course, a minimum of 90 units should be required for graduation excluding GST credit units and must pass all core coursese) courses as listed in the outlined programme proposal (OPP) to graduate.
