Professor Charity Akuadi Okonkwo – Career Journey
Professor Charity Akuadi Okonkwo is a distinguished academic and visionary administrator with over three decades of transformative contributions to educational measurement, evaluation, and open and distance learning (ODL). She currently directs the Enugu Study Centre at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), having previously transformed the Uyo Study Centre into a model zonal hub during her five-year tenure. As a member of NOUN’s Senate and 7th Governing Council, she plays a pivotal role in shaping institutional policies and advancing quality assurance frameworks.
Holding a PhD in Measurement and Evaluation from Abia State University and advanced degrees in education and physics, Professor Okonkwo’s interdisciplinary expertise underpins her leadership and scholarship. As the Pioneer Dean of NOUN’s Faculty of Education, she established foundational academic structures and spearheaded innovative programmes to promote rigor and excellence. Her research interests encompass digital literacy, e-assessment, and sustainable education strategies, resulting in numerous peer-reviewed publications and academic contributions.
Globally recognized for her expertise, Professor Okonkwo is certified in blended learning, instructional design, and authentic assessment by leading institutions such as the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and Athabasca University. Her tenure at NOUN is marked by the seamless implementation of innovative teaching and assessment strategies, earning her multiple accolades, including Best Teacher Awards and commendations for course material development.

She began her career in secondary education, teaching Physics and Mathematics and advancing from Master III to Principal. At the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), she served as the Pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Education, where she established foundational academic structures and developed innovative programmes. Her research focuses on digital literacy, e-assessment, and sustainable education strategies, with numerous peer-reviewed publications.
Professor Okonkwo holds a PhD in Measurement and Evaluation, along with degrees in education and physics.
